Who we are

About us
Who will you meet at the Castle? Well, the two of us: we are Montse and Álvaro. A Catalan and a person from Cádiz who met in Barcelona. After getting married, we decided to change the course of our lives and move to a region that we fall more in love with every day. We will accompany you so that you can enjoy and discover an experience at the first adults-only hotel in Berguedà.
The main protagonists of this experience will be you. In an environment full of history, peace, and nature, we will do everything possible to help you reset both your body and mind and discover what made us stay and live and work in this small corner of Berguedà.
Mission, vision, and values
VISION: In this year 2024, from the Castell, we believe that a more sustainable and environmentally conscious lifestyle and way of working can be achieved. For this reason, many of the actions we carry out at the Castell are focused on being respectful of our surroundings and raising awareness of the territory we have.
MISSION AND VALUES: In the energy management of the Castell, renewable energies predominate. All of the electricity is provided by the cooperative Som Energia, and the heating and hot water are heated thanks to a 22 m² solar thermal field we have on the roof of the Castell.
But that's not all...

A castle committed to sustainability.
We recycle all the waste generated at the Castell. We have a home automation system to manage the energy of the Castell, monitoring temperatures and kilowatts to gather more information about its operation. Many of the products used in meals at the Castell come from local producers to contribute to local development. And as if that wasn’t enough, we have joined the Biosphere network. A European platform that works with different sectors to achieve a new, more sustainable tourism model.
Additionally, we are part of the network of tourist information points. A program in which, periodically, we receive information about the latest developments in our region. We also receive specific training in the tourism sector.
Finally, we provide you with the responsible tourist decalogue in case you want to learn more tips for your stay in La Pobla de Lillet.

History of the Castle
The building known as El Castell corresponds to the former rectory, built between the late 17th and early 18th centuries. However, the location where it stands is historically significant, as it coincides with the site of the Mataplana castle-palace, built starting in 1297 when La Pobla de Lillet was founded. The castle was the residence of the lords of Mataplana until the 14th century.
Over time, the building became the rectory associated with the parish church of Santa María de Lillet, inaugurated in 1748. In 1997, the property was requalified to allow for the sale of the building, which at that time was in disuse and deteriorated. The new owners have completely restored and renovated the space, turning it into a luxury rural accommodation while preserving elements of its original structure, which likely include remains of the medieval castle-palace.
